President Kyle officially opened the meeting and welcomed members and guests Meredith and Peter Smith-guests of Kyle.

Only one spot from directors this week- Angela spoke about the bulletin and the need for some changes, she will be seeking feedback through a survey next week.

Pres Kyle then invited everyone to enjoy fellowship over dinner before introducing PP Barry for his sergeants session. Once again fun and frivolity was had with people being fined, people trying to claim wheel winnings and identifying with Facebook funnies.

President Kyle then presented his vision for the year.

He said he  is excited and very optimistic for the year ahead. He thanked members for the opportunity to lead and will respect the past while moving forward. He cited Rotary’s vision statement “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” And said this rang true with him and something we should keep at the forefront of our mind. He distributed a member satisfaction survey for members to complete. He will then collate and feedback to members

In summary this is his plan for the year:

  • Increase engagement of members and guests -it is not just about attracting new members but building engagement of current members and guests
  • Service opportunities
  • develop a new strategic plan for the club. With attainable Targets and goals.
  • Update our Social Media more frequently
  • continue our Ryla participation
  • Look at reinstating our participation in the Rotary exchange program
  • Increase fundraising opportunities
  • Continue the great partnership with the Cadets
  • Increase  collaboration with Rotary Club of Gawler Light-village fair, combined meetings and shared activities
  • Connect with sporting groups in Gawler and surrounds to use BBQ trailer

Membership and Public Image-

  • Facebook and Bunyip-focus on quality of quantity
  • Guest speakers- at least 2 per month, this is everyone's responsibility to find and suggest interesting speakers to Mark Smeaton so he can follow up.

Projects and service

  • Wants each committee to be effective and have a goal
  • Village fair increase number of food trucks – this was very popular last year and a good income earner
  • Keep Committees and board meeting on the same evening -last week of the month. Directors will then report back the following week to give a brief report.

Members will sit together on Committee meeting nights to ensure everyone has the opportunity to have input.

Admin

  • Increase the use of technology including teams/ one drive
  • Look at having a monthly bulletin instead of weekly -again this will help with quality over quantity.

Pres Kyle opened the floor for questions/ clarifications before asking for any other business from members.

. PP Chris requested assistance for the next 2 weeks for set up of meeting and packing away as he will not be here. Michael Jacob offered to do it.

PP Bruce informed members that Stan has been in hospital but moved back to Eldercare today.

Kyle then thanked Nixon’s for catering, Barry for his Session and His parents for attending before asking members to join in the Four Way Test,

From the latest Interplast newsletter Rotarians go the extra mile for Interplast

Interplast has been incredibly fortunate to have been chosen as the Partner Project of the inspirational and dynamic Carol O’Connell. Travelling thousands of kilometres with her partner, District 9790 Governor Stephen O’Connell, Carol has mobilised the sprawling and diverse Rotary District, which stretches from the north of Melbourne to southern New South Wales. This year, she has shared the Interplast story with hundreds of Rotarians and raised over $24,000 for Interplast programs!

Carol was able to meet Interplast volunteer surgeon, David Morgan, at the District conference in Albury earlier this month. There, David delivered a powerful keynote speech and joined Carol on one of the final objectives of her project — to walk 979kms over the year.

The passion and commitment of Carol, David and the Rotarians of District 9790 have been inspirational, and the results have wildly exceeded even Carol’s expectations.

Go without for those without! ⛺️

Challenge yourself to brave the elements and go #OffTheGridForShelterBox

Dear ROTARY,

When disasters strike and power lines go down, families are left vulnerable, robbed of comfort, light and electricity.

ShelterBox's #OffTheGrid challenge invites you to camp out between 20th June to 19th August and experience some of the impacts that disasters have on families around the world.

This is a wonderful opportunity for friends, family, work colleagues, club members and school friends to show solidarity with those left homeless by disaster and conflict.

The ShelterBox #OffTheGrid challenge is simple. Gather your mates, set up a camp and spend the night braving the elements to support families left with nothing following disaster and conflict.

Want to step it up a notch? Choose not to use any electricity for the entire day. Want to go even further? Ration your food too!

How far you take the challenge is up to you! The tougher the challenge, the more people are likely to sponsor you and the more you will be helping people in crisis who have no shelter, no home and no access to power.
