Chair for the evening Pres Kathy Heinrich opened meeting 3151.
Kathy informed members that our guest speaker for this evenings meeting had had to cancel so each director would give a short report on their committees instead.
Kathy then invited PP Brian to come forward for a spot. Brain has organised a Get-well card for Beth and would circulate it this evening so Margaret could deliver it to Beth. Beth gave a quick update on Beth’s progress.
After a short break, Barry conducted his sergeant’s session. He passed the microphone around for members to give any updates on interesting things happening in their lives at the moment. Margaret was our wheel spinner this evening and winners were Julie Tekyll and Ron Lloyd, both of whom won chocolates.
Directors Reports
President Kathy confirmed with members that the convention will finish in Adelaide on 3rd June with a free daytime volunteer expo then a function at the Sky City Ballroom cost $100per head.
John will be attending PECS training for 1 day (this is a reduction of time from previous years)
  • Admin- John Lyons Changeover has been scheduled for 3rd July upstairs at Nixon’s. Cost will be $55 P/H 3 course alternate drop. More info to follow re raffles and/or Auction –(Chris Edmonds has some wine he would like to donate).
John also is looking at ways to celebrate next year’s 70 years of Rotary in Gawler.
  • Treasurer-Kim Potger- The club has made a recent donation of $1000 to purchase another shelter box to Turkey. We have also committed to supporting another Indigenous Health scholarship recipient for $2500.
  • Youth-Angela Moore- Colin Bazeley is hoping to deliver a short presentation at the next Gawler and District Youth Network committee meeting in the hope of reaching out to people with contacts of people who would benefit from our support to attend Rotary programs- particularly Ryla, Rypen & Youth team sailing challenge. We are having trouble finding updated dates for Ryla but hopefully we can get the information before the meeting.
  • Service and Community-Steve Barilla. Lots coming up but the biggest one is the Barossa Air show on April 16th. We need as many Rotarians and friends to help out. It is a very busy day.
    • New signs have been made to fix on top of marquee.
    • Will be using 2 eftpos machines (the new one and the smaller old one).
    • Currently working on a ticketing system to assist speed things up on the day.
    • Will have ‘express lane checkout’ for purchase of drinks only.
    • We will be selling hot dogs and steak sandwiches plus drinks.
Also a busy weekend coming up on the 18th and 19th March. Saturday 18th we need volunteers to put up shelters for the Relay for Life event. Sunday 19th we need a team to pull down the shelters. We also need a team to do breakfast for the Black Dog Ride in Gawler.
We had a request to help at the ‘Touch  a truck’ event in Freeling on Sunday but we have had to decline due to the previous commitments.
A small team have started to organise an inventory for events. This will be an easy checklist so we don’t forget things and also can keep ahead when needing to replace items.
The spinning wheel is in the repair workshop so it will be all ‘prettied’ up before we use it. The aim is to add atmosphere and raise extra money for the club.
President Kathy thanked directors for the reports and after reminding Rotarians that next week was a public holiday, closed meeting 3151 with the Four way test.
The Breast Screening bus is heading to Gawler
