Euan Miller – guest speaker

PP Leanne Clinch provided the toast for the evening and Grace was given by Pres Kathy. Chair for the evening was PP Steve Barilla.
PP Steve opened meeting 3125 and welcomed members and guest speaker Euen Miller.
After his welcome Steve called for volunteers to assist with Gawler Show Parking. He asked for at least 12 volunteers who collected names from a show of hands. We are still needing a couple, so anyone who has had a change of availability or was absent please let Steve know- Remember, many hand make light work!!
There being no other members requiring spots, everyone was free to enjoy some fellowship over dinner.
Sergeant Barry called for the wheel spin and this week’s lucky winners were Guest speaker Euen and new member Beth who both received chocolates. He then gave another entertaining session with Facebook funnies, Birthdays, including leading a hearty Happy birthday singing session to Stan, and announcing the recent marriage of PP Brian Burt's granddaughter Briony to member Angela Moore’s Son Tim. PP Brian highlighted the Bunyip article on SIDS. Brian and Ian Sanders also visited the SAHMRI building on Sunday and had a tour of the facilities.
After a short break Steve introduced Euen Miller. Euen is a Rotary member of the  Prospect Rotary club and has been a Rotarian for over 40 years.
Euen was invited to speak to members about the upcoming Regionalisation project.
Euen shared a presentation narrated by Jane Doyle.
Some of the key messages from the presentation:
To establish a regional governance structure to:
  • Transform Rotary and Rotaract in our region to better support clubs
  • Provide relevant and engaging experiences that serve our communities and enable us to grow
  • Significantly increase our impact and reach
What do we want to deliver?
  • Support clubs to engage members, volunteers, and communities
  • Create new attractive leadership opportunities
  • Build stronger unified Rotary brand
  • Encourage partnerships
  • Improve efficiencies and reduce duplication
What does it mean for members?
As a member I will have:
  • Choices
  • Access to expertise
  • Flexibility
  • Leadership opportunities
  • Democracy
  • Collaboration and connection
  • Efficiency and reduced duplication
Principals of a regional structure
  • Democratically elected Regional Council with supporting committees and area leaders
  • Area leaders would be elected by the 10-25 clubs they would support
any Rotarian and Rotaractor can nominate self or others for all roles.
  • Representation is important-geography, gender etc
  • Collect the best resources from around Zone 8 to help support every club
  • 2-4 year terms
What is proposed?
  • A new model of Rotary to enable change
  • New flexible options for membership
  • New model for collaboration
  • Specialist support available to all clubs
Timeline
  • Jan 2019 pilot project established
  • 2019-2021 project objectives, working groups developed, RI board presentations.

The vote
  • One vote per club
  • Abstaining by any club is a NO vote
  • Two thirds majority of clubs voting YES required
  • Clubs vote districts confirm that clubs have voted.
  • At the moment Rotaract clubs do not have a vote but this may change
    We are voting to either:
  • Explore, develop and test alternative ways of operating
  •
  • Not participate in the Pilot
A question-and-answer opportunity followed the presentation.
