From the president

This week marked the board’s first official meeting under the leadership of a new president. With several directors away, the session was brief and focused only on urgent matters. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was extremely positive, and there is a real sense of enthusiasm for what we can achieve together in the coming months.

Our guest speaker for the week was our own member John Barker, a valued member of our Rotary family, both here and previously at Prospect. It was wonderful to get to know more about John’s personal journey and the experiences that have shaped him.

John recounted his early days working as a sales representative for printers and copiers, and shared insights from starting and running his own business—the triumphs as well as the challenges. It was during this time that a neighbouring business owner first introduced John to Rotary at Prospect. John continues to operate his business, now from the comfort of his home.

We also learned a fascinating tidbit about John: he is currently writing his first book! The book delves into paranormal and psychic experiences, exploring the idea that not everything should be dismissed as mere coincidence.

On Saturday the 8th, our dedicated club member and Past President, Anthony Barilla, departed from Gawler to participate in the Variety Club Bash as part of the WGBY team. Anthony exemplifies the spirit of volunteering. Despite welcoming a new baby recently and managing a busy career as a local solicitor, he continuously finds ways to support community projects and raise funds for worthy causes. In addition to his current role as Membership Director, Anthony is always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. We wish Anthony and his team a safe journey and look forward to hearing all about their adventure.

To officially close the Meeting Pres Angela thanked John  and announced next weeks guest speaker as Paralympian in the sport of Fencing, Rob Goodwin before asking members to join in  the Four Way Test.
